Whoaa, that kinda came out of nowhere!
- 5.84km total
- 5km fast run, 5 minute flat pace.
- 25 minutes on the nose for 5k
- New Balance SC Elite V4
So there you have it, a new 5k record for me, by basically 90 seconds!
I’ve got a busy day on today, so I didnt want to be out for too long. Was feeling strong after yesterdays good effort, and with a sunday long slow run coming up tomorrow, I thought id push a little out of the box. 5k was always my target for today, a firm 5k. But I really wasnt expecting to go so fast (fast for me, lets not assume this is anything its not).
Pretty annoyed I didnt sneak in under the 5 minute flat pace 🙁 I was so focused on just lasting that last kilometre that I didnt check the watch to see how I was tracking. But, beggars cant be choosers.
Once again today, I focused solely on good consistent form, with high turnover. Always keeping my eye on whether it felt like I was reaching, trying to stride further to speed up. Mindful of my dodgy hamstring, I could definitely feel that I was on the edge doing damage if I tried to kick on. So instead, I tried to just keep my turnover as high as possible.
Splits were as follows:
- 5:42
- 4:56
- 4:50
- 4:50
- 4:40
Super pleased with being able to hold that pace. This just simply wouldn’t have happened 2 months ago. I MIGHT have been able to hold a sub 5 minute pace for 1 kilometre. But definitely not 4 in a row.
I always feel like my kilometre 1 split is skewed towards a lot slower than what it is, as I probably start my watch, and then when it kicks in, start rolling off. Maybe ill try a rolling start next time I give it a whirl.
The New Balance SC Elite V4 really did the trick again. One thing is just had stable they feel underfoot for a super shoe. even though I was pushing the limits of my own speed, never did I feel out of control under foot. It really is a nice experience, and definitely a shoe that can be word by absolute NON elite runners. I would say an average amateur such as my good self, can get great value out of them.
The fit is a touch weird at times, they are tight in spots, and not in others. Sometimes I feel like my foot slips forward in them a touch, and not set back in the heel cup. I get the sense I need to try and do something about it whilst running, but that feeling is probably just in my head. Overall, I dont have any issues at all though. It’s a really forgiving super shoe from my limited experience so far.
Today was also my first day pulling on the shoe twice in a row. Always a bit nervous about overdoing the plated trainer, but im really not having any post run issues from the plate.
I think tomorrow ill give it a miss in favour of the Superblast for a long run.
But yeah, solid result today!
