The Daily Run

So I dont hate the Adidas Boston 12

Click baity headline aside, it’s true, I dont hate the Adidas Boston 12. I’m still not sure I love it. But I certainly dont dislike it in the way I did initially.

More on that, here is todays run. Still nursing this hamstring back to health, but its responding well.

  • 4.5km run
  • Deliberate slow pace, but getting faster each day
  • 6:27 minute / km
  • 1.33km warm down walk

Super happy with todays outing. I was really trying to go slow, yet that 6:27 minute pace used to be my max effort pace. Was it the shoes?

Firstly the hamstring is feeling about 70%. I absolutely would not want to push it right now. But I was able to cruise today and not really think too much about it. The legs feel strong, like they have really enjoyed the low mileage last week.

Probably something in that.

But today I felt like dusting off the Boston 12’s. I remember my last run in them was quite a long slow solid run that I enjoyed. So I thought with a slow run on the cards, id mix things up.

They really were quite good.

The more I wear them, the more maybe that foam compound wears in, the more they feel like they are helping not hindering.

The weight doesn’t seem to bother me as much anymore either. One thing I will say is, ive had to do these shoes up tighter than any shoe ive ever worn. Ive never been a big one for strangling my foot with laces so tight they will fall off. Ive always enjoyed a medium relaxed fit. But the Boston 12 demands to be strapped to your foot for dear life. But, the result of that is feeling more and more like a shoe that is really enjoyable to run on.

I was harsh, perhaps too harsh, after just a run or two. We weren’t gelling at all. But I can see why all the YouTubers do 100mile reviews now. It really does take time for the shoes to come to life. Perhaps thats got something to do with the more advanced compounds.

But I think I can see myself sticking with the Boston 12. Perhaps for those days where I dont want to fly, where I just want to have a steady controlled long run. Maybe we will be pals after all.
