The Daily Run

What is this nonsense blog you have landed on?

Well, yes, it’s probably nonsense to anyone but me. But for the most part, it’s a blog about my journey to becoming an everyday runner. Primarily with the goal of documenting my goal of running every day for the year in 2024.

And who am I?

Well, I’m very much an average nobody. Perhaps just like you! I’m not an elite runner claiming to be be average (Kofuzi im looking at you). I’m quite literally someone who struggles to eat healthily, is pretty exhausted after 5 kilometres, and sits at a computer for a solid 12 hours a day. Oh, im also in my mid 40’s. Everything just feels harder. Im short, and weigh probably too much for my height. There is nothing outstanding about the package, or any innate natural talent for running or life in general. Oh, other than my luxuriously long beard.

But I’m also a believer that we all have something exceptional in us, if we put in the work (or in this case, the miles). With habit being the larger goal here, and health and fitness being the happy side effect.

I read Malcom Gladwells ‘Outliers’ a long time ago regarding the 10,000 hours rule. And whilst I still think to become a world champion, there might also be a little luck and genetics in play for some people. The notion that I can become infinitely better than where I started if I put in that time I truely believe in. It goes the same for our work, and our relationships. Maybe I can become an excellent runner?

I have no desire to enter running races. I just want running to be a part of my life, not something I start to do every 6 months because im feeling horrible. I’ve always found I feel at my best, when I am constantly running. Ive tried cycling, wasnt for me. I used to play a lot of sport, but now I dont have the time or willpower. But running, that I can mix in every day, maybe just 10 minutes, maybe 2 hours. But every day there is space to run.

I live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, where conditions are simply perfect to be an every day runner. Mostly sunny year round, and when it’s raining, it’s rarely cold. So there are no excuses!

So I plan to document my journey on this blog. Firstly because I need something to hold me to account in those times where im just not feeling it. Maybe knowing my millions of blog readers are counting on me will spur me on! ha! But secondly because I enjoy writing, and I think this is also a wonderful habit to build into my daily routine.

You’ll see that some posts may be very personal, and not always about running. But for the most part, I’ll be chatting about my daily run, the gear im wearing and would like to review. And anything else that pops into my head.

So thats me, this blog, and why im here.

If you’ve read this far, you should stop, there are better things to be doing. Like going for a run 🙂

The 2024 Project Goals

As mentioned, this blog is largely based around a personal project im undertaking. Is it possible to run every day for a year? Of course it is, but is it for me? Time will tell!

But here are the details for the project:
