The Daily Run

Longest run of the year!

So this week went 100% by the book for the first time. The Sunday long run to cap off a really successful week was all it needed.

And boy was it a good long run.

  • 12.06km on the run
  • 6:46 minute / km pace
  • 81 minutes for the run leg
  • 12.64km total
  • Asics Superblast

This is the longest run ive ever done. Ever.

Conditions were spot on for it. Rainy, cool-ish, no sun to be seen. I set out to force myself to take it super slow. Time was the goal, not distance.

Ive seen YouTubers talk about slow run day pace being like 1 minute slower than “marathon race pace”. I assume my marathon race pace is “slow enough not to die”, so I decided I should do a couple of minutes slower than that pace 🙂

I settled on about just under 7 minutes per kilometre. I dont care how slow that is, it ended up being perfect for what I was out to do. Every time I felt like I was speeding up, I really made the effort to slow down. My goal was just time on the ground.

At the 10k mark, I actually felt pretty strong, so decided to keep on going and punch out another 2. In hindsight, I really should have stuck with my original goal. Build up to 12k. I was noticeably cooked the last 2km. But, we made it, and I didnt die!

The Asics Superblast was the shoe of choice here. Definitely didnt want to hit the long run with a carbon plate, just needed something forgiving. Really enjoying the soft yet firm midsole of this shoe. Had no dramas with hotspots or issues, after 80 minutes on the run.

Really solid week. Couldnt ask for anything better progress and strength wise. Definitely a rest day tomorrow.
